The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has announced that students will no longer be able to secure admission into higher institutions while awaiting their O’level results. jamb students.jpg JAMB said this was part of its restructuring in preparation for the 2017 UTME higher institution examination. This means candidates must sit and obtain the results of either West African Examination Council school examination, WAEC, or National Examination Council, NECO, before admission. JAMB also introduced a fourth choice of school, but said candidates can apply to only one government-owned university. Mohammed Barkindo, Secretary-General of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC, has expressed shock that Nigeria survival as a nation during oil price crash regime was a miracle. He, however, said the worst days for Nigeria due to the low price of crude oil were over. Barkindo said Nigeria’s ability to weather the storms of the low price of crude oil was a miracle.  Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority NCAA, gets new directors. The Federal government today appointed five new directors and a general manager to head the agency. According to a statement released by the General Manager, Public Affairs of NCAA, Sam Adurogboye, the newly appointees include Group Captain Edem Oyo-Ita (Director of Air Transport Regulations, DATR); Ahmed Abbas Sanusi (Director, Human Resources and Administration, DHR & ADMIN), Bilikisu Adamu Sani, (Director of Finance and Accounts, DFA), Odunowo Tayyib Adetunji (Director of Aerodrome and Airspace Standards, DAAS);Engr. Ita Awak, (Director of Airworthiness Standards, DAWS) and Lawrence Mathew Kwajok,(General Manager, Air Navigational Standards,ANS). The statement adds that their appointment is with immediate efect. It could be recalled, that the acting president, Yemi Osinbajo sacked all the directors heading the agency after paying a surprise visit to Lagos and Abuja airport.

Boeing 737 aircraft belonging to Air Peace on Monday suffered a burst tyre while preparing for take-off at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos. The incident occurred at about 11am forcing the pilot to abort the flight. The aircraft was to convey 105 passengers from Lagos to Abuja. The airline’s spokesman, Mr Christian Iwarah who confirmed the incident, said no serious damage was done to the aircraft and no passenger was injured. He said: “The incident happened around 11am as the aircraft was about to take off. The pilot immediately turned around and the passengers were disembarked. “Another aircraft was provided for them and I can confirm to you that they arrived in Abuja safely a few hours ago.” Reacting to the incident, the General Manager, Public Relations, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Mr Sam Adurogboye, said he was yet to confirm if the incident had been filed with the regulatory authority. Federal High Court sitting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to immediately, withdraw the Certificate of Return given to the Senator representing Akwa-Ibom North East district, Albert Bassey Akpan. In a judgment delivered on Monday, the court asked INEC to issue a fresh Certificate of Return to Hon. Bassey Etim, whom the court established, as the authentic candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the December 2014 primary election. The judge equally directed Senator Bassey Albert, to vacate his seat and ordered the President of the Senate, to swear in Bassey Etim, as the Senator for Uyo Senatorial district. It could be recalled that, Hon. Etim, a former member of the House of Representatives, dragged Senator Akpan, the PDP and INEC before the Federal High Court, Uyo, challenging the nomination of the Senator, even though it was glaring that he convincingly won the party’s primaries. What could be cause of all these increasing road accidents anyways? A Jetta car conveying passengers and two corps members has been involved in a fatal road accident killing all passengers at a spot. The accident occurred today along Mountain of Fire camp ground along Warri/Sapele road, Delta state.  According to different sources, the accident occurred after a jeep going at a high speed left it's own lane and collided with the Jetta car killing them at a spot. The Federal Government will employ additional 350,000 unemployed graduates in 2017. The graduates will be employed under the N-Power Volunteer Corps, a component of the government’s Social Investment Programmes. The Senior Special Assistant to the Acting President on Media Publicity, Mr. Laolu Akande, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday. Akande said President Muhammadu Buhari has requested appropriation of N157.75bn in the 2017 budget estimates for the N-Power scheme. “350,000 unemployed graduates more would be hired and trained, alongside 50,000 non-graduates youths to be engaged as artisans and in other creative ventures,” Akande said. He explained further that under the N157.75bn also, a sum of N4.5bn has been earmarked for the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics programme to support young Nigerians in building skills in those disciplines.
