Osun State Internal Revenue Service has closed down Obafemi Awolowo University ( OAU) Ile-Ife, over an alleged non-payment of tax to the tune of N1.8bn The officials of IRS, led by Mr Oladipo Babatunde arrived the campus at exactly 7:00am, and went straight to lock the main entrance to the campus, popularly called Road 1, and the gate to the Senate Building, including the administrative block and the bursary office. Confirming the closure to DAILY POST, the Public Relations Officer(PRO) of the school, Mr Abiodun Olanrewaju said officials of the tax office had locked the main gate to the campus and other offices. He said the University was already discussing with the Osun State Government to see how the issue could be resolved. “We just discovered that tax officials have locked our main entrance gate and the administrative block. “We are already speaking with Osun State government , and hope to resolve it soonest,” Olanrewaju said.

Miss Monica Osagie, the lady involved in the s*x-for-mark scandal with a lecturer in the department of Management and Accounting, Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife, Professor Richard Akindele, has appeared before a panel investigating the matter, alongside her lawyer, Dr. Abiola Akiode-afolabi. According to Daily Post, Journalists were barred from covering the proceeding but waited patiently at the VC’s lodge, the venue of the sitting; only Monica and her lawyer were allowed to enter the building. There is heavy presence of security operatives in and around the building, which is located along staff quarters within the campus. The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Eyitope Ogunboded had earlier confirmed to journalists that the appearance of Monica before the committee will enable the investigative panel to finalize its assignment and allow the university take necessary action on the matter.

The OAU lecturer, Professor Richard Akindele, a lecturer in the management and accounting department of the faculty of administration at the institution, whose audio conversation between him and female student was leaked online, where he could be heard demanding for five rounds of s*x from a female final year student in his department before she can pass his course may have met his Waterloo as more facts have been released of his s*xual molestation. An audio recording detailing the conversation between the lecturer and the female student identified as Enitan, surfaced online yesterday evening. Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has pulled out of the national body. The branch has consequently formed a new union. Dailypost reports that , their decision to pull out of ASUU national by OAU branch was taken at a congress held on February 12, when it rejected the resolutions of ASUU’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on the face-off between it and the parent body over an internal crisis. The union in a statement further hinged its decision on what it termed the, “unilateral removal of the elected treasurer by ASUU national president and the alleged transfer of N11 million from OAU branch account to ASUU national account.” The congress noted that the removal of the duly elected treasurer and transfer of N11 million prompted majority of members to request that their check off dues usually remitted to ASUU national be stopped. Management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has asked students to go home until January, 2018 as a result of the ongoing strike embarked on by Members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non Academic Staff Union (NASU) and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT). Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, in a statement said the Senate of the institution, at its emergency meeting held on Tuesday, approved that the students should proceed on an “End of the Year” break with immediate effect. According to the schools social media handle, Aarinola Olaiya just made history after she becam 1st Student in 28 years to have a Distinction in Surgery at the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife, Osun. Aarinola, also bagged distinctions in Medicine and Community Health. Her parents must be very proud of her. .Congrats to her!

At least , two Student of Union Government executives of the Obafemi Awolowo University,OAU,  Ile-Ife were left injured and hospitalized following a fight which ensued over the disbursement of N3.8 million.

The Nation reports that, members of the Great Ife Students’ Union shut the main entrance of the University of Ibadan over what was described as harassment from a member of the Abefele Security Unit in the institution. The incident between both parties took place on Saturday, 19th August, 2017 at about 5pm.
