Just like 'The Apprentice' show. President of United states of America, Donald Trump has dismissed all remaining members of the Obama-appointed Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (PACHA). This comes months after a half-dozen members resigned in protest of the Trump administration's position on health policies. The Washington Blade reported that the firings came without warning by way of a FedEx letter and were unexpected by most of its membership. Confirming the termination in a statement, PACHA executive director Kaye Hayes said: “On December 27, 2017, the current members of Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS received a letter informing them that the Administration was terminating their appointments.  They were also thanked for their leadership, dedication and commitment to the effort.” Hayes also added that the Trump administration has every right to appoint new members to the council. Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) has reported that Nigeria purportedly has the second largest HIV epidemic in the world and has one of the highest new infection rates in sub-Saharan Africa. This is just as it said 720,000 Nigerians are on United States PEPFAR-supported HIV treatment with approximately four million Nigerians having received HIV counseling and testing services in 2017 alone. Recent reports indicates that over 382,000 people living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus, HIV, are in Benue, Ondo and Borno states. The Acting Country Programme Manager, AIDS Healthcare Foundation Nigeria, Dr. Greg Abiaziem, Benue State ranks first in the HIV/AIDS prevalence rating in Nigeria according to the national survey carried out in 2014. Abiaziem said this on Friday at the commemoration of the 2017 World AIDS Day held at the IBB Square, Makurdi. He stated that over 300,000 people were living with the virus in the state, adding that the AHF was working hard to bring the figure down. He said out of the figure, 140,000 were currently undergoing treatment at the various treatment centres in the state.

Dr Sani Aliyu, Director-General, National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) has revealed the estimated number of people living with HIV in Oyo State. According to him, about 200,000 people are living with HIV in the South Western state He made the disclosure on Tuesday in Ibadan during a courtesy call on Gov. Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State at the executive council chamber of the governor’s office. The delegation was led by Aliyu, included representatives of World Health Organisation, other international donor and funding agencies. Aliyu stated that only 16,000 out of the estimated 200, 000 persons living with HIV in the state are currently on treatment. “We have a gap between the number of infected persons and those on treatment.
