BBC: Two Nigerians Appointed As Head Of Language Service For West And East Africa
According to reports the BBC has appointed two Nigerians into it head of language service as part of the BBC World Service’s to further expand its language services in Africa. They are to serve in both East and West Africa respectively. Based in Nairobi, Rachael Akidi Okwir, the Head of East Africa Languages, will be managing services in Afaan Oromo, Amharic, Somali, Swahili and Tigrinya. While Toyosi Ogunseye, who is based in Lagos as the Head of West Africa Languages, will be managing Afrique, Hausa, Igbo, Pidgin and Yoruba. Rachael was the Editor of the flagship radio programme Focus on Africa. Mohamed Salah Wins BBC Award For African Footballer Of The Year
Nigeria's Victor Moses loses out as Egyptian, Mohamed Salah was voted BBC African Footballer of the Year for 2017. Following a record number of votes, the Liverpool star won ahead of Gabon's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Guinean Naby Keita, Sadio Mane of Senegal and Nigeria's Victor Moses. "I am very happy to win this award," the 25-year-old told BBC Sport "It's always a special feeling when you win something. I feel like I had a great year, so I'm very happy." Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang,Naby Keita and Nigeria's Victor Moses have been nominated for the BBC African Footballer Of The Year 2017. The players were nominated by a panel of African football experts and the winner will be chosen by the fans who can vote on the BBC website. Former Nigeria and Barcelona star Emmanuel Amunike was one of the guests in the studio during the unveiling of the nominees.
