A former State governor, Senator Rashidi Ladoja has withdrawn from the PDP national chairmanship race. In a statement issued on Saturday, he said: “From consultations with stakeholders from various zones, we gathered that from all zones, the stakeholders who preferred to back the South West Zone for the position suggested that we should prune down the number, if possible, to ONE PERSON. “To reciprocate these laudable gestures, meetings of the Seven (7) Aspirants were held with Senator RA. Some members of the PDP in the National Assembly on Thursday night exchanged blows at the residence of Senator Godswill Akpabio in Abuja over the choice of the party's next national chairman, The Nation reports. Akpabio had convened a session on how to keep the party united and ensure a rancour-free convention. The session was also meant to allow the National Assembly Caucus to interact with all the aspirants of the party. “We were barely settling down for the session when some members of the House of Representatives raised issues concerning some aspirants for the office of the National Chairman and others disagreed", someone at the meeting said. “The development led to shouting match and fisticuffs among some Senators and members of the House of Representatives", the person added. Ahead of the 2017 national convention, the screening committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has cleared all the nine national chairmanship aspirants and certified them fit to take part in Saturday’s national convention of the party. Chairman of the committee, Mr. Osagie Ize-Iyamu, presented certificates of clearance to them a few minutes ago at the National Executive Committee hall at the party secretariat located as Zone 5, Abuja The aspirants are: 1.
