Benue lawmaker has been criticized for insinuating that the current nonpayment of salaries was not the faul of the state governor. He further started that even the Pope can't pay salaries owing to present situation on ground. According to Vanguard, the plan by the organised labour to embark on an indefinite strike over backlog of unpaid salaries in Benue state, the Majority Leader of the State House of Assembly, Mr. Benjamin Adanyi has appealed to workers to jettison the action saying that “with the present economic realities even a Pope or Bishop may not be able to pay salaries in Benue.” Adanyi who spoke yesterday in Makurdi was reacting to the failure of the aggrieved labour leaders to honour an invitation from the House, aimed at resolving the dispute, said the failure of the government to pay salaries was not deliberate. Hundreds of youths from Ushongo Local Government Area of Benue State today stormed the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Makurdi in protest demanding that the electoral body conduct elections into two state constituencies in the area as ordered by the law courts. The youths who carried placards amd chanted slogans denounced what they described as undue delay in complying with the court judgement which was obtained in 2005 and reinforced in 2015, with a resolution of the House of Representatives backing it up only last week. They also lampooned the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Terkimbi Ikyange, whom they accused of being the evil hand behind the manipulations which have stalled compliance with the latest order of the court, in his selfish bid to safeguard his personal interests to the detriment of the larger interests of Ushongo people. Benue Assembly Receives Local Government Sole Administrators List

By Bem Abunde The Benue State House of Assembly today confirmed receipt of the list of Sole Administrators for the twenty three local government areas from Governor Samuel Ortom. Speaker, Mr. Terkimbi Ikyange made the disclosure today during plenary session of the House, said the list was received through a letter from the acting Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Bem Melladu. Mr. Ikyange however did not made public the names contained therein contrary to high expectations by many people who turned in to witness the sitting, including Journalists. According to him, the House could not proceed with the consideration of the Governor's nominees which was also slated on the Order Paper due to the fact that many of the nominees were yet to forward their CVs. He said as soon as the House takes delivery of their details, the last will be made public. The has been adjourned to tomorrow.
