Nigeria's ex-President, Olusegun Obasanjo says President Buhari and his party, APC, have in the last three years been taking “Nigerians for fools.”

Leadership of the political pressure group founded by former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, the Coalition for Nigerian Movement (CNM), has confirmed its fusion into African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Senior Special Assistant to president Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, has insisted that his principal’s visit to the United States of America (USA), was beneficial to the country. In a statement, Shehu claimed Buhari got all he wanted from the U.S. government. This was in apparent response to criticisms of the trip by former President Olusegun Obasanjo and others. In a statement on Wednesday, Obasanjo had dismissed the trip, saying: “For whatever the meeting (between President Buhari and U.S. President Donald Trump) was worth, President Buhari again bungled another opportunity to self-redeem.” But in the statement titled: “Takeaways from the auspicious meeting between Presidents Muhammadu Buhari and Donald Trump,” Shehu said the visit would strengthen ties between both countries. The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has described the January 23rd controversial letter former president Olusegun Obasanjo wrote to him asking him not to seek re-election as abusive,LIB reports. Speaking in an interview with the Hausa version of the Voice of America in the US, President Buhari said even though the letter was abusive, he had to refrain the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, from replying the letter with abusive words. ”Even when the Minister of Information and Culture wanted to reply that abusive letter written by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, I told him not to. Nigeria's former President, Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday declared that Nigerians should prepare their minds that it may not be easy to change the present government of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019. Obasanjo made this declaration while speaking during the launch of the Oyo state wing of Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM), held at Trans Amusement Park, Ibadan, according to Daily post. Chief Ayo Adebanjo, has revealed that he and others warned the late Bola Ige from joining the government of Olusegun Obasanjo. Mr Ige,served as Minister of Justice in Obasanjo's government until he was murdered at his home in December 2001. The Yoruba leader, Adebanjo, in his autobiography titled, ‘Telling It As It Is,’ described Obasanjo’s govt as a calamity. “We were opposed to Ige joining Obasanjo’s cabinet but he accepted the appointment oblivious of the fact that Obasanjo was not inviting him in good faith. “Bola Ige didn’t need Obasanjo, it was Obasanjo who needed Ige”, he said. The author, however, described Chief Ige as brilliant and one of the greatest Awoist. The book reviewer, Professor Wale Adebamwi, added:  “How a man (Ige) of such superb and enviable endowment could join the cabinet of one of the most perverse figures in our political history is a question that the author attempts to grabble with in this book”.

Nigeria's former President, Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday called on President Muhammadu Buhari to stop giving Nigerians excuses, adding that the attitude was why he had not achieved results. The former President advised Buhari to buckle down, saying he was presently a failure. Senior Special Assistant to the president  on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, has said that his principal will defeat any of the former presidents should in case they attempt to contest against him in 2019. Recalled, Olusegun Obasanjo and General Ibrahim Babangida in their recent media outings told Buhari not to stand for re-election in 2019. Nigeria's former president, Olusegun Obasanjo has described the action of African leaders absent at the signing of the African Union Continental Free Trade Area (AUCFTA), as criminal. President Muhammadu Buhari, who cancelled his trip to Rwanda, was absent at the signing of the agreement. Buhari giving reasons for his cancelled trip to Kigali for the signing of the AUCFTA agreement framework said enough consultation was not made before the Federal Executive Council, FEC, approved the signing of the framework agreement for establishing the African Continental Free Trade Area.  According to Daily Post, Obasanjo, said  the agreement had the capacity to hinder local entrepreneurship and encourage the dumping of finished goods in Nigeria.
