Alhaji Ahmadu Al-Makura, was on Friday attacked by his subjects over land tussle in Nassarawa, Emir of Kwandere confirms. The Emir confirmed to journalists on Saturday that the people attacked him after the Friday prayer in Kwandere area of Lafia, Nasarawa State capital. Al-Makura said that he was shocked at the behaviour of the people because they were carrying sticks, stones and other weapons. He narrated that the whole thing started with protest by the people before the Friday prayers. Accordi g to new report by PUNCH, some suspected Fulani herdsmen have allegedly invaded Tiv villagers at various locations across the southern senatorial district of Nasarawa State killing 39 persons. It was also learnt that another attack were carried out Monday night with seven killed and over 15 houses burnt in same Keana Local Government Area of Nasarawa state. Punch had reported earlier attacks on Saturday and Sunday, carried out simultaneously in Awe, Keana, Obi and Doma local government areas of the state. The Monday night attack that left 7 dead was the continuation of the previous ones that also had nineteen people badly injured. The state Commissioner for Water Resources, Gabriel Akaaka, told Punch that the gunmen invaded his house and set it ablaze. 6 Family Members Left Paralysed As Strange Disease Hits Nasarawa State

At least, six members of a family in Gitata, Nasarawa State have been paralysed by a strange disease NAN reports. The six are the children of the late Danladi Bawa and all became paralysed after they turned 18, the eldest male in the family, Mr Danlami Danladi told NAN. Danladi in the family compound in Gitata said that their father died in 1990, while their mother died in 2017, but not from the disease. “My name is Danlami Danladi, I am 38 years old; as you can see, our parents are late. “My father died in 1990 after a brief illness and our mother died in 2017 from malaria and typhoid attack. Our parents did not die of this disease. “They gave birth to eight of us and six of us are now paralysed. We became paralysed after we attained the age of 18. When my father died in 1990, it was our mother who took care of our needs. “I am the second born of our parents and I was paralysed in 2006.   Aliyu Akwe-Doma, who is the immediate past governor of Nasarawa ‎State, has reportedly died in Isreal. The former governor died after a brief illness at a foreign hospital in Israel, a nephew Ahmed Bako, told Premium Times on Tuesday. It was gathered that already, sympathisers have gathered at Mr. Akwe-Doma’s house in Orozo, Karshi district of Abuja. He governed Nasarawa State between 2007 to 2011 when he was defeated by incumbent governor Umaru Al-makura.

Nasarawa state Governor, Tanko Al-Makura, has finally spoken on perceived rift with Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom. Al-Makura said his administration was not at war with Benue State over the implementation of the anti-open grazing law. Al-Makura stated that Nasarawa State government had no issue with the Benue government and was just concerned about the adverse effects of the law prohibiting open grazing of cattle. The governor, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Security Matters, Dr. Muhammad Adeka, stated this in Abuja on Tuesday, during a peace meeting by stakeholders from Benue and Nasarawa States, called by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris. The governor said, “I don’t want people to leave here with the notion that the government or the people of both states are at war because of the word peace and reconciliation that is used to describe the meeting. ‘ Nasarawa State do not have any problem of any kind with the people of Benue State.”...

Universities, Polytechnics And All Higher Institutions In Nasarawa State Embark On An Indefinite Strike

According to The Joint Union of Tertiary Institutions (JUTI), Nasarawa State Chapter today announced they have  embarked on an indefinite strike following the state government’s failure to meet their demands on welfare issues.   The Chairman, Samuel Bashayi made this disclosure in a statement in Lafia.  Bashayi, who is also the Chairman of the College of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), Akwanga Chapter, said the institutions involved in the strike are: College of Education Akwanga (COEA), College of Agriculture Lafia and Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia.   He said that the decision to embark on the strike was taken at the union’s state executive council meeting held at the state polytechnic, Lafia on Thursday.   “The strike followed the insensitivity of the state government to the plights of the affected institutions. First Class Graduate, 400L Student Shot Dead In Nasarawa State

Some gunmen suspected to be armed robbers have killed two students of the Federal University, Lafia. One of the students killed had graduated with first class from the economics department and was processing his final clearance while the other was in 400 level, English Department. The gunmen had stormed the students’ village at Mararaba-Akunza, opposite the university gate at about 10:30pm on Wedsnesday night and shot sporadically. The bullets hit the victims. One of them died on the spot while the other one died while being rushed to the hospital. The remains of the two students have been deposited at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia.
