Following calls from the two former military head of States asking President Muhammadu Buhari not to contest for a second term. Senior Special Assistant to the president  on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, has said that his principal will defeat any of the former presidents should in case they attempt to contest against him in 2019. Recalled, Olusegun Obasanjo and General Ibrahim Babangida in their recent media outings told Buhari not to stand for re-election in 2019. Nigeria's President ,Muhammadu Buhari is scheduled to host the Council of State on Thursday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Punch reports that, the President, for the third time, will be hosting the meeting of the council that has all living former Presidents and Heads of Government as members since he assumed office in 2015. Those expected at the meeting scheduled for the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa are former President Shehu Shagari; former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former President Goodluck Jonathan. The former military leader, Ibrahim Babangida, has reacted to news of his spokeperson, Kassim Afegbua been declared wanted by the police over the controversial statement he released on Sunday February 6th on the instruction of his boss.

Department of State Security Services (DSS) has invited Kassim Afegbua for a chat with its Director-General, Mr Lawal Musa Daura.

The spokesperson of former military leader, Ibrahim Babangida, Kassim Afegbua, has reacted to the news of the Nigeria Police Force declaring him wanted over the controversial statement he released on Sunday February 4th on the instruction of his principal, former military leader Ibrahim Babangida. The former military leader in the statement asked Nigerians not to vote for president Buhari in 2019. He has since come out to say he authorized the letter. 

Nigeria's Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has reportedly ordered the arrest of the media aide to former President Ibrahim Babangida, Prince Kassim Afegbua for the statement he issued on behalf of his boss.  According to TheNation, the issuance of the warrant of arrest was disclosed by a Presidency source last night.

The Buhari led administration has approved the release of N280.1 million for the purchase of cars for all  former Heads of state and Presidents in the 2017 budget. This was disclosed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation,OSGF, Boss Mustapha, who appeared before the House of Representatives to review the 2017 budget of his office and defend the 2018 budget for his office. The  run2017 bydget will still till May this year. The SGF disclosed that the the N280.1 million meant for the urchase of cars has been monetised and it would be shared and given to the former leaders to buy any car of their choice. Nigeria's former Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida has reacted to reports that he told former VP Atiku Abubakar to forget his 2019 presidential election ambition' Mr. Babangida, Nigeria’s leader from 1985-1993, said media reports that he advised Mr. Abubakar not to run for election during a closed-door meeting Thursday was ‘laughable’ because it was ‘sponsored’. “Anybody who has sponsored such report was just being unfair” to Messrs. Nigeria's former military ruler, Ibrahim Babangida on Thursday in Minna, was said to have advised former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar to drop his 2019 presidential ambition. The two Peoples Democratic Party, PDP leaders, met behind closed at the uphill mansion of the former Military head in Minna.
