Football star and Liverpool winger, Mohamed Salah, is on course to win the Golden shoe, an award given to the player with the most goals in Europe. Salah netted four times against Watford last Saturday, to take his league tally to 28 for the season, three more than his nearest challenger, Lionel Messi of Barcelona. He will become the only second Premier League player in the last 11 seasons to win the Golden Shoe, if he indeed finishes ahead of the Argentine superstar. Salah will also emulate former Liverpool striker, Luis Suarez, who shared the accolade with Cristiano Ronaldo in 2013/2014 when both scored 31 goals. The Golden Shoe table is ranked on points rather than goals, with goals scored in Europe’s top five leagues worth two points. Football star and Barcelona striker, Lionel Messi believes he and his rival, Christiano Ronaldo will never share a close friendship because they do not get to spend enough time together to build the required bond. Both award-winning football stars have shared a formidable rivalry throughout their La Liga careers but while Messi claims the alleged enmity is very much created by the media, he also admits he and Ronaldo are unlikely to ever consider one another friends, if only because they rarely get the time to speak. Messi said: "I don't know if we will be. Friendship is built through spending time together and getting to know each other. We have no relationship, mainly because we only see each other at awards ceremonies and that's the only time we speak. Everything is fine, but our lives don't cross over very often."

Lionel Messi of Barcelona has received the European Golden Shoe award for the fourth time on Friday, after becoming the highest goalscorer across all of Europe's major leagues last season. The 30-year-old Argentine won the prize after netting 37 times for Barcelona, drawing him level with Real Madrid rival Cristiano Ronaldo. The superstar footballer won the award ahead of  Dutch striker Bas Dost, who netted 34 times for Sporting Lisbon in the Portuguese Primeira Liga. Messi who made it a family affair by arriving at the ceremony which held in Barcelona, with his wife Antonella Roccuzzo and their young son Thiago, was presented with the trophy by teammate Luis Suarez, who won the award in 2015-16 with 40 goals.
