The former Media Adviser to former Governor of Abia State, Chief Theodore Orji , Ben Onyechere has been murdered.  NAN reports that Onyechere was kidnapped at about 8pm in Ikenegbu axis of Owerri where he had gone with his driver to do some shopping. The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “The gunmen, numbering five, trailed Onyechere to a popular supermarket in Ikenegbu and forced his driver out of his car before they sped off with Onyechere. “The following day, the lifeless body of Oncheyere was found a few streets away from Maris Junction, Ikenegbu, Owerri, after he was shot several times. It is sad.” The source added that the deceased’s driver, who put up initial resistance, was shot twice on the legs before Onyechere was kidnapped.

Rivers State police command confirmed yesterday that a police officer was killed in a gun battle with an armed robbery gang in Port Harcourt. The Command Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni told reporters in Port Harcourt that the policeman lost his life in an attempt to foil a bank robbery in a new generation bank. He said the robbers who had trailed a bank customer had hot exchan ge of gun fire with the police where the officer was killed while some of the robbers sustained serious bullet wounds. A witness  told our reporter  that the gunmen who drove into the bank  premises in a Tayota Corolla car  had trailed a customer who had  gone to  the bank to witdraw money, that as soon as the customer withdrew the money  and was about leaving the bank in company of a  police escort, the gunmen opened fire on the  vehicle.
