ELECTION TRIBUNAL: Nullify Saraki’s Election now.. PDP Tells Appeal Court

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the March 28th senatorial election for Kwara central senatorial district, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrasak, has urged the Court of Appeal to nullify Dr. Bukola Saraki’s election.

The PDP candidate also prayed the court to order the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct fresh election for the seat on the ground that the one that produced Saraki, who was the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, as winner, was marred by “substantial irregularities and corrupt practices”.
Abdulrasaq said he was not satisfied with the ruling of the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal led by Justice Josiah Majebi, which upheld Saraki’s election.
He also alleged that the tribunal failed to appropriately use the documents tendered in evidence against his opponent in the election.
Abdulrasaq, therefore, sought a relief from the appellate court to set aside the decision of the lower tribunal, which upheld Saraki’s election.
Abdulrasaq, in a statement, described the tribunal’s judgment as shameful.
“The tribunal’s verdict belongs to the dark art of voodoo jurisprudence. I say this with more sorrow than anger, ‎but principally because I want a Nigerian judiciary that is as good as any other. To ensure this, the National Judicial Council must be pro-active in curbing rogue justice. It ought not to wait for complaints before it acts”, he said.
The Private Personal Assistant to the PDP flag bearer, Mr‎. Adebayo Lateef Oloyin, said all documents relating to the proceeding at the tribunal have been transmitted to the Court of Appeal, including notice of service to all respondents.
Mr. Abdulrasaq also petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase‎, against what he described as alleged criminal conduct during the Kwara Central senatorial district election and appealed to him to look into the matter and take action.
