POLITRICKS: APC’s Dakogol wins Plateau legislative bye-election

Dakogol, the APC candidate, has won Saturday’s bye-election to fill Qua’an Pan
North Constituency’s seat in the Plateau House of Assembly.
The
News Agency of Nigeria reports that Mr. Dakogol polled 5,409 votes to defeat
PDP’s Alloy Oliver, who garnered 4,977 votes.
INEC’s
Returning Officer, Akkarven Ashakah, who announced the result at the
legislators chamber in Qua’an Pan Local Government Secretariat, described the
election as “very successful and credible.”
Mr.
Ashakah, who is the Deputy Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Jos,
congratulated the two candidates and their parties for conducting themselves
peacefully during the bye-election.
“Politics
is a game of numbers and should be played maturely,” he said.
With
the victory, Mr. Dakogol will replace Godfrey Dashe, who died two months ago,
as the representative of the constituency in the state House of Assembly.
Reacting
to the victory, the state Chairman of APC, Letep Dabang, described Mr.
Dakogol’s victory at the polls as “a victory for democracy considering the
peaceful conduct of the election’’.
Anthonia
Okoosi-Simbine, INEC’s National Commissioner in charge of the North Central
zone; Godwin Kwanga, the State Resident Electoral Commissioner; party
officials; and other stakeholders were present during the announcement of the
bye-election result.
