BREAKING: Governor Ortom Sanctions another Local Government Chairman
According to Benue.com.ng, the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has today sanctioned Makurdi Local Government Caretaker Chairman, Mr Joseph Gbashima for authorising the construction of stalls within the Local Government secretariat.
The Governor who personally inspected the secretariat directed the Urban Development Board to demolish the stalls with immediate effect with the cost of the demolition to be borne by the Caretaker Chairman.
Governor Ortom expressed shock over the development stating that apart from being an eyesore, allocation of shops to traders within the secretariat posed a security threat and exposed the conduct of government business to outsiders.
Governor Ortom added that as a municipal council steps should rather be taken to beautify its secretariat to make it more presentable.
He charged those vested with the responsibility to oversee public property to safeguard and protect it against encroachment.
Special Adviser on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Titus Zam, told the Governor that he had earlier directed that the construction be stopped.
