BENUE: Bureau of Local Government & Chieftaincy Affairs Takes Major Decision.....

BUREAU OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND CHIEFTAINCY AFFAIRS HAS HANDED OVER PAYMENT OF SALARIES OF TEACHING AND NON TEACHING STAFF OF PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN THE STATE TO THE STATE UNIVERSAL BASIC EDUCATION BOARD ( SUBEB) WITH EFFECT FROM DECEMBER 2015.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Hon. Titus Zam, made the hand over today in his office during a meeting between the Management of the Bureau and that of SUBEB headed by Dr. Philip Tachin. The hand over contains 23,441 staff strength against 24,502 the administration met on ground prior to Staff verification by the State government.
He said by virtue of the staff audit, government was able to ascertain genuine staff of 23,441 and saved a lot of money that was hitherto expended on ghost workers.

Hon. Zam urged management of SUBEB to be prudent in dealing with the resources and be firm in implementing the administrations's policies as they affect the development of primary education in the State.He also promised the Bureau would sustain partnership with SUBEB to improve teachers welfare.
Responding, Executive Chairman SUBEB Dr.Philip Tachin promised to study the handover notes and further verify the figures as possibility exist that there may be some dead woods still within the system, to enable them have clear view on how to further move the primary school forward.

He said the Board had already put in place measures and built capacity to manage the system against manipulations for the public to appreciate efforts of the Ortom administration at revitalizing primary education.
Permanent Secretary of the Board Mr. Isaac Shaager, acknowledged efforts of the management of the Bureau at addressing the plight of the teachers promising that SUBEB would continue to partner with the Bureau to drive the course.
The handing over process was witnessed by management staff of Bureau led by the Permanent Secretary Mr.Emmanuel Ikpe.
