CIVIL SERVICE REFORMS: ORTOM GIVES MARCHING ORDERS TO MDAs

By Terver Akase
Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has directed all ministries, departments and agencies of government to submit their staff lists to the state Public Service Reforms Committee, within seven days.

Governor Ortom gave the directive when he met with members of the committee at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi.
He said reforms in the state civil service had become necessary as cases abound of monumental corruption, inefficiency, maladministration, insubordination and ghost workers in the service.
The Governor urged the Public Service Reforms Committee to continue to carry out its assignment in a professional manner as his administration would give them the required support.
Earlier, Chairman of the Committee and former Head of Service of the state, Mr Mike Iordye, briefed Governor Ortom on the challenges the committee had encountered in the course of its assignment.
He said some ministries, departments and agencies of government refused to submit their staff lists while others which did produced unharmonised lists.
Mr Iordye expressed optimism that at the end of the reforms, the state civil service will be repositioned for optimum performance.
