DEMOLITION OF BUILDING: Benue State Government, Set to Demolish 206 Houses This Week..SEE DETAILS

The Benue State government Monday said it had marked about 206 illegal structures scattered across the state capital, Makurdi for demolition in the next demolition exercise bid to take place this week.

General Manager of Benue State Urban Development Board, Mr. Richard Agwa disclosed this while fielding questions from journalists in his office in Makurdi.

Agwa explained that owners of such structures have long been served with notices of demolition, adding that the exercise is a deliberate policy of the Ortom administration to open up development blocked channels as the rains is fast approaching.

He disclosed that areas where the structures have been marked for demolition include Achusa, Kanshio as well as Logo 1 and 2, adding that the major challenge confronting the board was lack of earth moving equipment, but commended the governor for making a provision for the board in the 2016 budget to address some of the problems.

Suswam rains SUVs on Benue Governor-Elect, others

  Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, has donated eight brand new Toyota Prado SUVs to the Governor-Elect, Chief Samuel Ortom; his wife; the Deputy Governor-Elect, Benson Abounu, and his wife, as part of measures to ensure peaceful transition arrangement. Senate Indicts Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Over Loss of N1.6tr Revenue

Nigeria's imediate past minister of Finance ,Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has been indicted by the Nigerian senate over a N1.7t loss in revenue. According to the Senate Ad Hoc Committee on Alleged Misuse, Under-Remittance and Other Fraudulent Activities, revenue agencies short-changed the Federal Government to the tune of N1.7tn as unremitted revenue generated between 2012 and 2016. The panel blamed it on a memo by a former Minister of Finance, Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who allegedly issued the memo to the agencies to remit 25 per cent of revenue they generated to the Federal Government and spend 75 per cent on their expenditures. An interim report by the committee chaired by Senator Olamilekan Adeola, details this. The panel said the amount to be remitted to the Federal Government during the period by 93 agencies it investigated was N21.5tn. It alleged that 25 of the 93 agencies covered defrauded the government of a total of N1,695,585,887,406.
