ORTOM CHARGES COMMUNITIES TO SAFEGUARD PROJECTS AGAINST VANDALISM

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has taxed the people of the state to assume ownership and protect equipment deployed by contractors for the construction of roads and other projects in their communities against vandalism.
Governor Ortom gave the charge yesterday in Gbajimba, Guma local government area while addressing the people of Nzorov who conferred honours on him.
He said the era when youths demanded what is termed in local parlance as 'marching ground' from contractors was gone, stressing that it was the responsibility of chiefs and other community leaders to enlighten their people on the benefits of having projects sited in their area.
The Governor said his administration would soon sign several other contracts for the construction of more roads and the development of numerous infrastructure across the state.
"We are aware of the urgent need to address the challenges of infrastructure in the state and I can assure you that I have approved more projects and very soon, such contracts will be signed. No part of the state will be marginalised in the distribution of development projects", he stated.
Governor Ortom thanked the people of Nzorov for the honour done him and their prayers to enable him succeed. He also commended them for adhering to his caution against clashes with Fulani herdsmen, saying that dialogue remained the best option while the federal and state governments intensified efforts towards ending the Benue killings.
Earlier, the District Head of Nzorov, Chief Gwatse Akaahina, thanked God on behalf of his people for choosing one of their sons to govern the state, describing Governor Ortom as a humble and hardworking man whose experience and selfless disposition would be of immense benefit to the state.
Highpoint of the event was the dressing of Governor Ortom in Tiv colours of black and white by the Nzorov traditional council.

Suswam rains SUVs on Benue Governor-Elect, others

  Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, has donated eight brand new Toyota Prado SUVs to the Governor-Elect, Chief Samuel Ortom; his wife; the Deputy Governor-Elect, Benson Abounu, and his wife, as part of measures to ensure peaceful transition arrangement. Senate Indicts Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Over Loss of N1.6tr Revenue

Nigeria's imediate past minister of Finance ,Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has been indicted by the Nigerian senate over a N1.7t loss in revenue. According to the Senate Ad Hoc Committee on Alleged Misuse, Under-Remittance and Other Fraudulent Activities, revenue agencies short-changed the Federal Government to the tune of N1.7tn as unremitted revenue generated between 2012 and 2016. The panel blamed it on a memo by a former Minister of Finance, Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who allegedly issued the memo to the agencies to remit 25 per cent of revenue they generated to the Federal Government and spend 75 per cent on their expenditures. An interim report by the committee chaired by Senator Olamilekan Adeola, details this. The panel said the amount to be remitted to the Federal Government during the period by 93 agencies it investigated was N21.5tn. It alleged that 25 of the 93 agencies covered defrauded the government of a total of N1,695,585,887,406.
