The former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national secretary was born
on May 6, 1945 in Abia state, Southeast Nigeria.
The Abia state born former Minister of Affairs was appointed by the administration of late President Umaru Yar’Adua on July 26, 2007 Maduekwe was also appointed as Culture and Tourism minister by President Olusegun Obasanjo in 1999 as well as Minister of Transport in 2001.
According to SaharaReporters and Vanguard, the former PDP national secretary got the nick name ‘Ojo oni Keke’ for advocating the use of bicycles during the PDP government. However, critics said that the roads were unsafe for cyclists. There was a time Maduekwe himself was pushed into a ditch by a bus while he was cycling to work. He was national secretary of the the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), when the party was ruling Nigeria.
The secretary of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party, Maduekwe died at his residence in Abuja on Wednesday, June 29 night shortly after returning from the US. Senator Walid Jibril, who is in Saudi Arabia for the Lesser Hajj, said he was shocked when he was told that Maduekwe passed on. Likewise, a former publicity secretary of the PDP, Olisa Metuh confirmed Maduekwe death.
