Residents of Lessel, Headquarters of Ushongo Local government area of Benue State this morning staged a peaceful protest over former Governor Gabriel Suswam’s visit to the town.
It was gathered that the former Governor was attending a church service at N.K.S.T church Lessel.
Led by some members of the Benue motorcycle Association(BEMOA), the protesters matched along the major road in the town with Other protesters were in Buses.
They carried placards on which various inscriptions were written.
"Suswam De kwagh u mbatsav ke Benue " (Suswam stop witchcraft in the state),
" Suswam hide se aa Nyaregh yasee " (Suswam bring back our money) .
"origoo hide se aa nyaregh yase oooo"
( Pig man bring back our money oooo),
"Bring back the N107 billion and stop making noise".
"Leader of G-52 bring back the N107 billion loot," and several others were the inscriptions venting their anger towards Suswam.
The police forestalled a clash between those protesting and thugs who accompanied the former Governor and came to stop the procession.
Officers on duty advised the protesters to stand on the side of the road opposite the church to register their grievances peacefully.
Before the intervention, the thugs wounded one of the protesters, who was conveyed to a private hospital in Lessel.
They stoned him by the ribs and he fell.
