Durban,the largest city in South Africa is a province of KwaZulu-Natal...it ranks second among the most populous urban areas in South Africa after Johannesburg.
The city has 3.5million population with a land area of 2292 km2-1513km2.it has the largest number of millionaires per day!
That is the city that hosted the 2016 International Aids Conference where Dr Mrs Eunice Ortom was proclaimed the UNICEF Champion of Adolescents HIV Prevention in Benue State!
The International Aids Conference is the premier gathering for those working in the field of HIV and policy makers.
The Aids 2016 Conference presented new scientific and offered many opportunities for structured dialogue on the major issues facing the global response to HIV!
Recall that the Governor's wife was a gender focal person in the Benue state Action Committee on Aids and was appointed as Chairman of the Board of SACA by her husband,Governor Samuel Ortom based on her past experience in the agency.
The participation of all stakeholders in that conference which included Dr Mrs Ortom sparked conversations within the conference, to build a more effective global HIV response and focussing the worlds attention on the greatest pandemic on the sand of time!
The conference was a time to assess where the fight against HIV is,evaluate scientific developments and lessons to chart a new way forward.
The gathering in Durban therefore brought the stakeholders together to discuss successes and challenges specific to each country and the current global endemic trend to share the best practices!
Upon her return to Nigeria... Benue state,Dr Mrs Ortom has set in motion,an outreach to share the lessons from that international conference sponsored by UNICEF for the benefit of people of Benue state through counselling and testing to know each individual status... Most particularly Women and Adolescents!
To this,i say bravo to a Progressive and proactive personality who ought to be celebrated for giving back to society knowledge she has gathered to save more lives that are on the verge of been consumed or lost to the cold hands of death.
To this end,Dr Mrs Ortom will on Monday,1st August commence an outreach across families in Eight operational zones of the state.
The outreaches will take her to Gboko where constituents from Sankera,Kwande,Jechira and Jemgbagh will converge on that renowned capital of the Tiv nation for the flag off the programme which is in line with the collective vision of her husband a administration during his tenure as Governor!
The visit will take the Governors wife to old Oju,old Okpokwu and old Otukpo as well as Minda.Makurdi!
It is the goal of the Governor's wife to complement her husband efforts in Health care delivery
It is hoped that all stakeholders in the zones will facilitate the smooth take off and success of this outreach programme for the benefit of their people and the overall success of the Governor Samuel Ortom administration.

Suswam rains SUVs on Benue Governor-Elect, others

  Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, has donated eight brand new Toyota Prado SUVs to the Governor-Elect, Chief Samuel Ortom; his wife; the Deputy Governor-Elect, Benson Abounu, and his wife, as part of measures to ensure peaceful transition arrangement. This presentation was made by the Governor on Thursday at the state house in Makurdi in the face of the heavy criticism his administration has faced for owing salaries of workers for over six months. Senate Indicts Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Over Loss of N1.6tr Revenue

Nigeria's imediate past minister of Finance ,Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has been indicted by the Nigerian senate over a N1.7t loss in revenue. According to the Senate Ad Hoc Committee on Alleged Misuse, Under-Remittance and Other Fraudulent Activities, revenue agencies short-changed the Federal Government to the tune of N1.7tn as unremitted revenue generated between 2012 and 2016. The panel blamed it on a memo by a former Minister of Finance, Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who allegedly issued the memo to the agencies to remit 25 per cent of revenue they generated to the Federal Government and spend 75 per cent on their expenditures. An interim report by the committee chaired by Senator Olamilekan Adeola, details this. The panel said the amount to be remitted to the Federal Government during the period by 93 agencies it investigated was N21.5tn. It alleged that 25 of the 93 agencies covered defrauded the government of a total of N1,695,585,887,406.
