PHOTONEWS: Engr Benson Abounu At The Rowing Out Ceremony in Honour of Sapper At North Bank, Makurdi
The Benue State Deputy Governor, Engr Benson Abounu was at the Nigerian Army School of Military Engineers (NASME) North Bank Makurdi to witness the Rowing Out Ceremony in Honour of Sapper Generals. The deputy Governor who was there to represent Governor Ortom delivered a speech on behalf of the Governor. Read it below:
In a colourful ceremony watched by thousands of people, 6 Generals of the engineering corps who had retired were formally rowed out of service. The officers among who were Maj. Gen. F.S Owonibi, Maj. Gen. P.K Ikumoinein, Brig. Gen.P.O Reis, Brig. Gen. Lot Tanko Linus, Brig. Gen. P.F Ayeni and Brig. Gen. Osamudiamen Osemwota were rowed out in a boat from Gen. Efeovbokhan Watermanship site on the North bank of River Benue to Wadata on the south bank and thereafter unto their vehicles which took them away.

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has assured soldiers and men of the Nigerian Army of continuous government support in the course of their service to the nation.
Speaking at the rowing out ceremony of some retired Sapper Generals at the Nigerian School of Military Engineering, (NASME), North Bank, Makurdi, Governor Ortom who was represented by his deputy, Engr. Benson Abounu commended the excellent relationship between the state and NASME, adding that as the host state, his government would continue to support NASME and the army in every possible way..
He paid glowing tribute to the army engineers for their contributions to the development of the country and thanked the Sapper Generals for giving their best to the service of the country.Earlier, the Commander, Corps of Engineers, Maj. Gen. ECN Obi said the rowing out ceremony was done to honour the retired sappers for their unquantifiable contributions and sacrifice to the peace, stability and development of the country.
