EFCC Still After Benue Assembly Over Contract Scam
Mr Eworo, who spoke to newsmen in Makurdi, yesterday, said the deputy speaker has not only brought disgrace to the House, but has also systematically instituted the principle of divide and rule, a development which has portrayed the House in a bad light.
“Okefe has brought too many troubles to us in the House. Just look at the issue of vehicles, he put us in that mess. EFCC is still after us. So many other issues to contend with.
“All the members of the House had shifted the whole blame to me because I nominated him to become the deputy speaker at the inception of the present Assembly and because he was a first timer.”
Eworo admitted that he undisputedly and deliberately connived with Okefe and other members of the APC as at the time both of them were in the PDP to ensure that he, Okefe, emerged deputy speaker, but said the action has become regrettable.
Commenting on the anti- grazing bill before the Assembly and the alleged bribe taken by members to restructure the bill, the deputy majority leader said the allegation is false, adding that the bill has not been tampered with.
He stressed that the cause of the on-going controversy is as a result of the change in the title and content of the bill.
“Some individuals in top leadership positions in the state actually made allegations over the bill, but I want to tell you that it is unfounded”, he added.
He, however, claimed that the new bill was prepared in order to accommodate more opinion and ideas, explaining that all major stakeholders including elders and opinion leaders both within the state and outside the country have been contacted for their input before the passage of the bill.
